If you haven't heard about Greta Thunberg, have you really been paying attention to the news or have you just been living under a rock?
Greta Thunburg is an 16 year old Swedish teenager who has become the voice of a movement that has spread world-wide. Greta began the movement called 'school strike for climate change' which was where she took time out from school to stand in front of the Swedish Parliament and hold a sign which called out for stronger climate change action. The movement comes under the name of 'Fridays for Future', where every week there would be a day dedicated to a climate change strike.

This movement has grown substantially leading to the global climate strike on 20th September, where millions of people from all around the world to protest for more climate change action to be taken. Last Friday, the world took to their streets to protest and raise global awareness about the climate crisis.
Here in Birmingham, there were more than 3,000 students and activists who came out to protest the climate change crisis! This shows the extent to which change is needed and the urgency of the issue! The protest on Friday saw more than 4 million young people come to streets to voice their concern and made headlines in countries such as UK, France, India and Germany.

The Swedish teenager has spoken at the UN Climate Change Summit 2019, with a very strong message to world leaders at the United Nations General Assembly. In an emotional speech, she said “How dare you? You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words” . She directly questioned the authority about the lack of concern and action that has been taken for this global climate change crisis.
"You are failing us. But the young people are starting to understand your betrayal.”
Greta expressed the words that thousands of millions of young people have been shouting in heart felt speech in front of the UN. Quite interestingly, when Donald Trump had entered the UN Assembly, Greta Thunberg stood in disappointment with a hard, stern look upon her face her expression showed a thousand words. Donald Trump has previously, shown to doubt the happenings of global warming and the science behind our climate change, therefore Greta's reaction is quite natural!

Greta's heartfelt and fierce speech has caused many (including me) to open our eyes and minds to damage that it caused by humans to our earth. There needs to more emergency action needed, however this can't be done without the support of many. Until we change our attitude we will not be able to change our actions. How long will it take for people to understand the damage that we are causing to this earth?
If a girl so young is ready to speech up about a matter that is so detrimental to this planet then why are we not raising our voices. Being a Muslim, I feel that it is important to understand that Allah (God) has taught us to look after this earth and to not think of it so carelessly. So, no matter what race, religion or culture you are it really is crucial we speak up and take more action to save our planet.
It was clear that by Greta's UN powerful speech she has shown the frustration and annoyance that we are feeling as humanity to see our planet being destroyed. Greta Thunburg has shown to the world what young people can do and how we are leading this fight to get solutions to this ongoing global climate change issue, rather than the adults.
''The eyes of all future generations are on you"
