I can't be the only one who has vowed to dress better this year, but every time I walk into a store everything is either too short, too tight or something you'd never catch my dead in. So to give you a little helping hand here are some of my favorite modest instagrammers you need to follow for outfit inspiration. I also wanted to write this to normalise modest fashion, since following these intagrammers I fell more motivated to dress modestly.
1. Minimalist Queen @dinaktb
If you're looking for minimalist modest clothing, this girl knows exactly what she's doing. Sticking to neutral colours such as black, white, beige and the occasional burgundy her outfits never cease to impress. However, most of her clothes are from shops such as Zara and Mango, for those of us with a uni budget it's a little harsh on our wallets but you could always find alternatives in New Look or Primark. She is also on 21buttons (same as her Instagram name).
2. Street Style @fvtijm
I envy people who throw anything on and make it look amazing, that's exactly what Fatima does. Most of her outfits consist of hoodies, sweatshirts and skirts but somehow she pulls them off. If casual or the lazy look is more your thing then you have to follow her, she has perfect everyday outfits.
3. Vintage Beauty @sauf.etc
Samia is a favorite of mine, you can find anything from casual everyday wear to holiday wear on her feed, most of which has a vintage touch. Although some of her clothes are from Zara and vintage shops she does shop in places like Pretty Little Thing which is a little cheaper.
4. A Little Bit Of Everything @avsva_
This girl's Instagram account has everything from casual street style to lavish dinner wear which is perfect for everyone. For anyone still trying to figure out what they like you should browse her Instagram and see what you would wear.
5. City Girl @Khaoulaboumeshouli
If the big city life is what you're going for then Khaoula has the outfits to go with it. Her clothes are more on the neutral side with a splash of colour here and there. You should follow her Instagram if you're looking for slightly expensive street style.
6. The Oversize Look @beyzalami
Oversize clothes are by far the best, if you like comfort over fashion but also fashion (I know that doesn't make sense but you know what I mean) then you have to follow Beyza, most of her clothes are oversize but she makes them look so good. Her feed largely consists of skirts and long coats which are all stunning.
7. For Those Of Us Running Low On Cash @ashwaaqfidar
By now you might have realised most of these people shop in places a little out of our budget, but it's okay because Ashwaaq is here to save our wallets. Her beautiful outfits consist largely of skirts and blazers and the best part is, they're from shops like Primark and Boohoo. The coat in the first picture is from Primark which goes to show we can look just as good without spending so much. And as a bonus she is also on 21buttons.
8. Runway Ready @mariaalia
If you're a fashion junky and follow people like Bella Hadid or Kendal Jenner but know full well you can't walk out in a tube top then you have to follow Maria, she knows how to convert the latest fashion trends into modest clothing. This New York girl has everything from animal print to slip dresses to help you fit in with the latest trends.
9. Business Casual @naimabegum_
If you're looking for something more sophisticated, Naima knows what she's doing with her business casual looks. Her Instagram is full of looks, clothes ranging from Zara to Missguided. And you're in luck because most of her outfits are on 21buttons.
10. Picture Perfect @taqwabintali
Be prepared to have a sudden urge to visit Paris. Every single Instagram post of hers deserves to be in a museum somewhere, the same goes for her outfits. If you're artsy, love travel and a hint of vintage then you will love all her outfits. I would love to dress like her if I thought I could pull it off (maybe one day in'sha'allah).
These are only a few on Instagram but feel free to look for your own and test out clothes to see what you like best. If this is your first step to dress more modestly then my advice would be start with smaller changes like slightly longer tops or slim trousers and work your way from there.
