Self-Care Is Not Just A Myth Instagram Influencers Spread & How You Can Fit It Into Your Busy Life

People (especially Instagram influencers who look like supermodels) tell us how important self-care is but who actually has time or money to go for a two hour facial every week? Not me. Most of us are too busy in the real life struggling to balance work, uni, commitments and general everyday life to give self-care a second thought. But self-care is a lot easier than you think it is, some of us might already be doing it without realising! Here are a few tips and tricks to make sure you take time out for yourself from time to time.


1. Make Yourself Breakfast

Maybe you already make yourself breakfast, maybe you grab a slice of toast on your way out the house or maybe you skip it altogether. But make breakfast a habit. We've all heard people go on about how it's the most important meal of the day, and maybe that's true but when you start the day off doing something for yourself it'll make you feel better throughout the day. Now I'm not saying you make yourself a full english everyday, maybe it's just a bowl of cereal or cream cheese and toast, you can put in a bit more effort if you have a later start. Another tip you can use throughout the day is making your food look good even if no one else sees it. A habit I have is making my food look good when I make something, I put it on a nice plate and enjoy the food, something as small as that is self-care.



2. Read A Book/Play A Game/Do Something You Love For At Least 10 Minutes A Day

Take 10 minutes out of your day, maybe just before you go to sleep or when you've just come back from work/uni and do something to relax. This can be anything from reading a book, playing a game, yoga or just lie down on your bed. Taking a little time out to do something you love will make you feel better about your time use. And remember life is not all about work, money or studies, yes they're important but what's the point if you're letting your time right now waste away?


3. Have A Relaxing Shower/Bath

Everyone showers everyday (more or less) and it seems so mundane but make the most of it! Make showers/baths your happy place, detach yourself from the struggles of everyday life, from your phone and other people. Use shower/bath time your you time, take time to think happy thoughts. And maybe once in a while you have one of those extra showers where you use expensive shower cream, a face mask, body scrub and whatever makes you feel good.



4. Block The Negativity Out Of Your Life

Yes, yes, it's cliche, but hear me out. Block all that worrying about the future out, all those people who bring you down, all those apps you spend way too much time on and make time for things that actually matter. Taking out the bad things is as much self-care as doing good things. If you really have to, make a list of all the negativity and think about more useful things you could be doing with your time.
