This time last year I did not know what I was doing, let alone whether I would successfully complete my first year of university! It is safe to say that it has been a complete ride of up's and down's in my first year of University, which has set me upon a path of adventure and most of all discovery. One thing is for sure though, starting university can be the most daunting and nervous thing anyone can do! But not to worry because I'm going to walk you through some top tips I found useful to get you through the year!

First up: Be Yourself!!!!!!!

This one is probably the most important tip I could probably give you for your first part of Uni and one that I found was the most useful. Growing up I haven't found the best luck in the friend department, resulting in questioning myself about where I belong. Through secondary school I was trying to be someone I wasn’t which moulded my character and when someone found out I was not that type of person, it would shock them! It was difficult! And by the time I realised I wanted to be the talkative and bubbly person I was, it was too late, and friendships were made! So the moral here is, right from the beginning make it known who you are and don’t be afraid to be that, even if you feel you might get judged, or they ‘didn’t expect that from you’!

Second tip: Take every opportunity that you can get your hands on!

There's a world of opportunity out there and unless you're taking it, someone else doing the exact same course and who has the same career path as you will! Any university will give you masses of opportunities to gain a better understanding of your specific skill set, but it is solely up to you to take that! Ask, Ask and Ask!

Third tip: Don't be afraid to ask questions!

This is an tip that I wish I learn't sooner! Sometimes asking questions amongst a lecture theatre full of intellectuals can be a little daunting. But you have to say to yourself, you are paying for this (£9250 to be exact) so make your worth while and make sure you understand fully! Ask your tutors and lecturers if you don't understand something!

Fourth tip: Try to be organised and complete the reading. Try! (ngl I fail at times, but we can all hope right lol)

It can be difficult to organise all your stuff, but take a few minutes each day to make sure you have got your lectures in order and in check. Be prepared for each lecture beforehand and try and do your reading so you have an idea of what's to come in the lecture. Trust me it will help a lot.

Fifth tip: Enjoy your time and don't be too hard on yourself!

This is one of the most important tips! just remember to enjoy yourself and go with the flow, no matter what you do! Have fun and see what adventures it leads you too! There is no need to be hard of yourself, because the best thing about first year is the freedom to figure out who you are and what you like!

Hope that's bought some positivity into your life if you're worried about starting uni, or if you're in uni already, either way enjoy the ride, because you'll be working in a few years!
